How Sisters Came to Be…
Sisters Tea Parlor & Boutique came into the world as Sisters Gift Shop in 2002. Owner, Connie Young, had dreamed of opening a gift shop specifically for women. While the current the trend in the gift industry was women making fun of women, their bodies and their brains, Connie longed for something better. Connie envisioned a place where women were encouraged to love themselves and their own unique qualities. She wanted a place where pink meant strength and being a woman was a gift. After much soul-searching, a little pink shop was born in Crestwood, Kentucky offering gifts for the spirit, soul, and body. However, the dream did not stop there. Connie was inspired to add something more, but she was not quite sure what the “more” could be. It was during a fateful trip to Destin, Florida that Connie realized that a tea parlor was what she needed to complete her dream.
A flood of memories came rushing to her: Memories of afternoon tea with her grandmother as a very young child. Memories of an earlier dream she shared with her oldest daughter, Lori Crowe, of opening their own tea room in LaGrange, Kentucky. While that tea room never became more than long afternoons of talking and planning, this new vision quickly took root.
In the spring of 2007, Connie moved Sisters Gift Shop to its current location in Buckner, Kentucky. She asked Lori to join the Sisters’ family and together the mother-daughter team created Sisters Tea Parlor & Boutique. The little pink shop tripled in size and inventory, and two dining rooms and a private party room were added. The updated boutique introduced tea accoutrement as the tea parlor began serving traditional afternoon tea service. As Tea Parlor Co-Founder & Director, Lori has poised the tea parlor to become a favorite place for friends and sisters of the heart to reconnect, strengthen bonds, and linger at the tea table.
As Sisters Tea Parlor & Boutique grew, Connie’s youngest daughter, Kelly Stariha, joined the Sisters’ family as Director of Sales. Kelly became the official Party Planner to ensure every private party is perfect.
Under Connie’s watchful eye, Sisters Boutique continues to offer unique gifts for babies, girls and women. And, just as in the beginning, she promises that at Sisters “Every Woman is a Sister, Every Woman has a Sister.”
What exactly is “having tea” at Sisters?
We offer a unique dining destination, serving traditional tea service in a contemporary and chic setting, with a whisp of whimsy. Our experience is deliberately made to be one of wonder and amazement. A trip to Sisters Tea Parlor & Boutique is an experience outside of the ordinary.
Ladies are invited to dress-up in our vanity area filled with lavish hats and wraps, costume jewelry and gloves. At the tea table, our guests are well-cared for by their tea server. The bottomless pots of tea pour freely and our tea trays are generously filled with traditional tea fare such as tender scones, tangy lemon curd, tea sandwiches and bite-size savories. A Traditional Tea Service is not complete without our sweets tray; as beautiful as it is decadent, and always satisfying. Ladies are encouraged to linger and laugh out loud, dress-up in our hats, take pictures and create unforgettable memories.
After tea, browse our beautiful boutique filled with unique gifts to encourage and inspire the wonderful women in your life, including YOU!
As most mothers who love to talk about their children, Connie loves to talk about Sisters. “One of my favorite things about Sisters is talking with all the wonderful ladies who come to visit. I just love to hear their ‘ooh’s and aah’s’ when they walk through the door. I knew it was God who planted this seed in me and I saw myself offering the encouragement and love, but I have received the most unexpected blessings, too.”
Connie’s goal is to have many Sisters Tea Parlor & Boutique locations across the country. “It is a thrill to hear someone from far away say, ‘Oh, I wish there was one of these near me.’ One day, there will be!”
